4.03 Detroit Vipers - WR Marquess Wilson

In the real world: Wilson's draft grade went into a tailspin starting last fall, all owing to off-field issues during 2012 at Washington State. He was suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, after which he left the team and claimed new coach Mike Leach and staff abused him and his teammates. He later recanted that claim, saying he was angry about losing his starting job. WSU did not allow him to return for its Pro Day. 52/813/5 in just nine games last year, as well as back-to-back seasons of over 1,000 yards in 2010 and 2011. Drafted by the Chicago Bears in Round 7; that team doesn't have much depth at WR beyond Marshall and Alshon Jeffery.
In the TUFF world: This is one of those cases where I say, yes, he made a couple lousy decisions that have changed the course of his career as a football player. Instead of being drafted in Round 1 or 2 and making a lot more money, he got drafted in Round 7.

A lot of us make crappy mistakes at 20, which is how old Wilson is (making him one of the youngest prospects in the whole draft). Like a lot of mistakes made by younger people, his were based off of circumstances he had never faced before for which he did not yet know about the consequences. He didn't commit any crimes, he has no known substance abuse issues, he had no off-field problems prior to 2012, and to the best of my knowledge, his talent hasn't changed. That's why I don't think it would be a good idea to judge his future. Hopefully he can take advantage of the clean slate he has.
