3.06 Baltimore Brown Clowns - TE Gavin Escobar

In the real world: The Dallas Cowboys drafted him in Round 2, when they already have future Hall of Famer Jason Witten. Haven't we heard this song before? Remember Anthony Fasano (2006)? Martellus Bennett (2008)? They didn't get very far on the pop charts. The bottom line on Escobar, from San Diego State, is that he is terrific in terms of receiving skills, but offers little to nothing in the way of blocking (in fact, it was his blocking issues that prevented him from having the starting TE job at SDS in 2011).
In the TUFF world: The Brown Clowns are probably happy to get him because, in addition to his upside as a receiver, they need a backup for Brent Celek. (Lance Kendricks got screwed out of a starting TE job when the St. Louis Rams signed Jared Cook, and Ed Dickson has fallen behind Dennis Pitta on the Ravens' depth chart.) Baltimore has gotten very good value out of this pick, just as they did at 1.06 and 2.06. But to do so, they had to pass up Chris Thompson (Florida State RB, Alfred Morris handcuff). Anyway, until the Cowboys show me that they can use two tight ends the way the Patriots have with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, I'm not going to buy into any talk about how they're going to use Escobar.
