3.03 Detroit Vipers - WR Stedman Bailey

In the real world: Bailey, not speedy Tavon Austin, was West Virginia's leading receiver the past two seasons. In particular, in the red zone, Geno Smith turned to him more often than to Austin. His stats may be the result of playing against soft defenses, but in 2011, he played against one of college football's better secondaries in LSU and had 8 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. He is reunited with Austin in St. Louis, so since their front office and coaches have scouted both receivers, they will understand how they complement each other. Bailey will compete with Austin, Brian Quick and Chris Givens, as well as new tight end Jared Cook, for receptions.
In the TUFF world: Detroit got a decent value out of this pick in a wide receiver who arguably should have gone around the middle of Round 2 (well, if you go off of the footballguys.com rookie rankings and the myfantasyleague.com average draft position reports). Although it takes wide receivers three years to develop in the NFL, Bailey's route-running and hands could help him climb up the Vipers' depth chart.
